The red palm weevil is the biggest threat to Mallorca's palms. Spotting it early saves the tree.
Signs: central fronds tilting or falling, galleries in the trunk, damp sawdust at the base of the fronds and a sweet smell.
Prevention: a check every six months, treatment with authorised products and avoiding unnecessary pruning, because every cut is a way in.
If symptoms appear we act fast: sanitation, targeted treatment and, if unavoidable, controlled removal with proper waste handling so the pest does not spread.
